Wild South Seafood is the only product of its kind on the Australian market, renowned for some of the finest seafood on the planet.

What sets it apart is that it is Australian seafood from the southern ocean that is wild caught or in other words organic, and snap frozen at the source, which just happens to be beside the wharf where the boat pulls up, making Wild South Seafood the freshest seafood you can possibly find. We put it straight on a direct flight from Amy and make it available each week.

Wild South Seafood is a product of complete integrity and trace ability with the packaging detailing the name of the boat that each individual piece of seafood comes from.

All other individually portion packed wild caught seafood in Australia is either imported, Australian product that is shipped to Asia for processing, or farmed seafood that is not free from antibiotics or feedlot food.

Spencer Gulf King Prawns

For superior quality and full taste, Spencer Gulf King Prawns (Melicertus latisulcatus) are renowned throughout the world as the premium species of prawn. Spencer Gulf King Prawns are wild caught straight from the cold clean waters of the Spencer Gulf, full of natural flavour.

The individual 400 gram packs include full prawns snap frozen immediately after being caught and put on a plane to be on your plate as quick as any fresh product can arrive in Hong Kong.

We have no problem offering you a full money back guarantee with this product, quite simply these prawns are amazing.

Simple, green (uncooked/raw) really fresh prawns (snap frozen then immediately on a direct plane to Hong Kong). The prawns are wild caught using prawn trawlers and seine nets. The Spencer Gulf is the body of water that runs from the Southern Ocean up to Port Augusta in South Australia.

The Spencer Gulf prawn fishery is MSC certified, which is the internationally recognised process for recognition of a sustainably managed fishery.

Spencer Gulf King Prawns are treated at sea with sodium metabisulphate (preservative 223), which is global industry standard. This information is included on the product packaging labelling. This is the same as the preservative used in beer and wine making, fruit juices and bakery items. Sodium metabisulfite oxidizes in the liver to sulfate which is excreted in the urine.

The Spencer Gulf prawn fishery leads the way in environmentally sustainable fishing practices, which is now being role-modelled worldwide. Recently this was acknowledged through being awarded Marine Stewardship Council Certification. Spencer Gulf King Prawns are an Australian product, caught and packed in Australia. The highest level of quality control is maintained, ensuring presentation, flavour, and product life is preserved.

The individual boats that are sourcing these prawns for Wild South Seafoods are Monique K & FV Lauren Maya. Each packed can be sourced back to either of these boats which caught your product.

Kings of Sustainability

The Spencer Gulf King Prawn Fishery sailed into the history books with a series of firsts in sustainability in November 2011. Represented by the Spencer Gulf and West Coast Prawn Fisherman’s Association (SGWCPFA), this fishery is the first prawn fishery in the Asia Pacific, and the first king prawn fishery in the world, to gain the prestigious Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for sustainability.

What is the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)?

The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organisation established to address the problem of unsustainable fishing and safeguard seafood supplies for the future. It’s headquarters are located in London.

THE MSC vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life – today, tomorrow and for generations to come. A sustainable seafood market is crucial to making this vision a reality.

The MSC’s mission is to use this certification and ecolabel program to contribute to the health of the world’s oceans by recognizing and rewarding sustainable fishing practices, influencing the choices people make when buying seafood and working with our partners to transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis.

The MSC works collaboratively with the fishing industry, seafood business sector, governments, scientific community, environmental groups and others to give retailers, restaurants and consumers an opportunity to choose and reward sustainable fishing through their seafood purchasing choices.
